Planting a church is an exciting and challenging opportunity.
CBOQ journeys alongside our churches and leaders who are seeking to plant new churches in Ontario and Quebec. We provide coaching, training, grants and support for church planters who are dedicated to growing the Kingdom in new ways and new places.
Growing your Skills
Coaching for Church Planters
Church planting is about people, and bringing them together to learn, worship and grow together. The success or failure of a church plant depends on the grace of God and the relationships we forge. It is rewarding and, at times, difficult, and having someone walk alongside you as a church planter can make a colossal difference.
That’s why CBOQ has church planting coaches to assist you in your journey. Through conversations, resources, assistance in evaluating and adapting ministry, prayer and relationship, experienced church planters coach you through the trials, tribulations and triumphs of planting a church.
Coaching is for:
- Recent graduates who are new to church planting and want to find out more
- Established leaders who are exploring their call to church planting and evangelism
- Church planters who are already planting, but would like to further develop their skills
We consider it a privilege to journey alongside our church planters. If God is calling you to plant churches in the Canadian Baptist family in Ontario and Quebec, contact us!

Church Planting Internship with a CBOQ Church
To help church planters get started in the right direction, CBOQ is offering church planting internship opportunities. Internships are fully funded by CBOQ and offer a unique way for church plants to have additional help while giving an intern valuable church planting experience.
What is a Church Planting & Evangelism Internship?
It is our belief that an excellent internship program can help CBOQ invest in church planters who will in turn plant churches within our Baptist family. We are committed to the care and growth of interns by aiding in their spiritual, character, and skill development. The priority is to develop well-rounded Christian leaders who will succeed in shepherding and church planting in the future. Church planting interns can be students currently at seminary or someone who desires to give a dedicated period for experiencing church panting ministry.
What does the internship involve?
Church Planting and Evangelism Internship is a time of intentional discernment, training and getting equipped in Church Planting. You will spend the year following a Church Planter getting firsthand experience in cross-cultural church planting and learning the day-to-day life of a church plant pastor.
Typically running from September to mid-May (part-time) and May to August (full time), the church planting internship is designed to help you:
- Cultivate church planting experience
- Develop a robust philosophy of ministry for church planting
- Gain practical skills for planting new congregations
- Discern your own gifting and skills as a future church planter
As an intern, you will be working on:
- Community engagement
- Preaching and some pastoral care
- Leading worship and teamwork
- Vision casting and goal setting
- Time for prayer and reflection
Does this internship assist me in my journey toward accreditation with CBOQ?
Yes! Upon satisfactorily completing the internship you’ll receive commendation that counts towards accreditation with Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec.
Is this internship paid or voluntary?
Interns will receive $5,000 – $10,000 for the one year internship with the option of housing provided by the host congregation.
Who should apply for an internship?
- Interested in exploring church planting
- Willing to consider accreditation with CBOQ as a church planter
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
Planting Churches Together
CBOQ exists to equip our churches and their leaders to engage with their mission from God in their community. If your church’s mission includes church planting, CBOQ can help you find symbiotic opportunities for your church to work with a church planter, expanding your church’s mission. As a sponsor, your church provides:
- Prayer and encouragement
- Practical supports like bookkeeping and leadership consultation
- A way for new church plants to access CBOQ church funding
- Strong relationships with a fledgling church, allowing new local mission fields to be reached!
We are a family of churches, and as family, we welcome the opportunity to work together, to share the Gospel and plant fresh expressions of the Kingdom. We are excited to work with your church as you consider ways to partner with a church planter.

The New Leaf Network is a partnership of a number of Canadian denominations, who work together to equip, encourage and resource church planters, or those considering planting, here in Canada. We offer Canadian specific teaching and mentorship through our Church Plant Design Shops and offer events throughout the year to cultivate relationships and connections with other planters across Canada.
Church Planting Canada was initiated in 1997 in Bramalea, Ontario and has developed into a broad network of Canadian leaders who work together for the multiplication of churches across Canada. The movement believes that the best way to do this is to focus on the missional nature of the churches that are being planted in order to engage in the transformation of neighbourhoods with the love of Christ.
