Today and Tomorrow

By Laura Sellakandu, Lorne Park Baptist Church

I celebrate the privilege of completing eleven years at Lorne Park Baptist Church (LPBC). I have served as Children and Family Leader, Youth and Young Adult Leader, Pastoral Care and currently as Lead Pastor. As a black woman in pastoral leadership, I am grateful for the journey that I have had over the years. I am definitely not the same person I was eleven years ago when I first stepped through the doors of LPBC. I have grown and will continue to grow, learn and serve. Today and Tomorrow!

I serve the Lord on the premise that, “there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus,” (Galatians 3:28). I also know that there is neither white nor black for we are all precious in His sight. When this narrative appears to be in theory rather than in practice, this truth still does not change, “we are one in Christ.” The mantra that I have held in ministry over the years is, “serve the Lord with joy.” There have been times when my joy has been attacked but I learned to keep my eyes fixed on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2) and let His joy remain. Today and Tomorrow!

Currently, I am working with our youth until we secure a youth leader because they too are growing, learning and searching. I am thrilled to be part of their lives and provide opportunities to attend Blizzard, Today’s Teens and weekly Bible studies which is foundational in their faith formation. They are the next generation who need a strong foundation to endure the challenges of life. Thankful for Ricardo Martin Marroquin and Natalie Sedeno Thomas who are also supporting our youth on their faith journey. We know that time spent with them will never be in vain. Today and Tomorrow!
