Description

Pastor of a rural church in the small town of Alexandria Ontario with a congregation attending of 100.

Overview of Church and Community

Revive Alexandria Church was planted in 2012 by Breadalbane Baptist Church which has been in our area for over 100 years. We have had one pastor who was the founding pastor. He originally was at Breadalbane church and after establishing Revive he decided to move with the new church and leave his post.

The church was started after a few months of evening meetings to gauge interest. They were held at a local high school and attended by a good number of Christians who had recently suffered some breakdowns in two local churches.  The core of Revive began with several people from these two churches, one of them being a francophone congregation along with several families from the Breadalbane Church.

The current makeup of the congregation is very diverse.  There are French Canadian families, Filipinos, Ukrainians, and Africans, as well as a refugee from Cuba. Our congregation has twice sponsored families to come from war torn areas; one from Syria and more recently from Ukraine. There are about 20 children who attend the Junior church which goes up to Grade 3, then another 10 who attend an intermediate group up to grade 8. There are a few seniors and several youth and young families. The church is growing with new people appearing regularly.

Our church is open and friendly, alive, and active, and very community minded. Currently we receive new congregants from other churches, by personal invitation and local community members.

We do well in the following areas: good teaching, including others/involving congregation in ministries. Preaching is Bible-based, and more than half of the congregation are participating in some type of small group.  There are various Bible studies, book studies, and life groups as well as a Grief Share group and a mental health course which may in turn result in other groups. There are groups for couples, men women and young adults. There is an active Youth Group.

Revive’s top goals to work on for the next three years: Discipleship, Community Building, Unity, and Growth (Congregation needs to be one where the atmosphere is charged with faith and joy in all we do).
