Description

The Director of Worship Ministries will direct and oversee the worship ministry of Mississauga City Baptist Church. He/she will, with reliance on the Lord Jesus Christ, shape the vision for development of the worship ministry, coordinate the involvement of worship leaders, musicians and technicians, and provide training and spiritual care for those involved in worship and arts ministries. He/she will leverage technology for the expanded ministry of the church, through live-streaming of worship services.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

EDUCATION

  • Bachelors’ degree in Music or equivalent (formal training in music)

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of three years of experience in leading worship in a church setting

Role and Responsibilities

Weekly Worship Services

  • Plan celebrative, creative and meaningful worship services in conjunction with the pastoral team
  • Be available to lead and/or assist at weekly Sunday Services and at worship team rehearsals
  • Coordinate the activity of worship teams and maintain a schedule of worship leaders, musicians, and technicians, providing support and guidance for those on the schedule for the upcoming Sunday
  • Oversee, communicate, and implement production plan for service order that includes co-ordinated details for speakers, worship team, and all aspects of tech (sound, lighting, live video, in-house projection (sanctuary ProPresenter feed), and live-stream projection (OBS ProPresenter feed))
  • Oversee worship service flow and coordination
  • Oversee the preparation of weekly ProPresenter media for Sunday service (lyrics, sermon notes, videos)
  • Provide technical support for people providing pre-recorded content for Sunday services
  • Encourage new expressions of the worship arts/media in the church’s services—dance, visual arts, drama, creative lighting, etc.
  • Additional research, coordination and testing for integrating new/improved technology/systems into livestream
  • Oversee maintenance of instruments and equipment used for worship services

Training and Development

  • Develop and cast strategic vision for music/arts ministries
  • Recruit, oversee, and develop worship leaders to lead the worship teams
  • Recruit, orient and train new members for worship music ministries, with special attention to cultural and generational diversity
  • Interview/audition new recruits to ensure spiritual and musical readiness for worship team participation
  • Develop and maintain policies for recruitment, intake, and worship team involvement
  • Provide spiritual care for those involved in the worship and arts ministries
  • Provide training and development opportunities for worship leaders, vocalists, musicians and all tech volunteers (sound, lighting, OBS, ProPresenter), including workshops, clinics, platform coaching, etc.
  • Oversee worship ministry interns (as needed)

Special Event Planning

  • Work with the pastoral team and other planning teams to prepare for special events such as the Fall Festival, Light the Night, and other seasonal events (Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, etc.)
  • Arrange, select and direct special worship arts events—visual arts, dance, ensembles, instrumental groups, etc.
  • Schedule musicians, sound/video personnel and other technical services teams for special events, (and funerals)
  • Invite and act as liaison with guest artists (as needed)

Administrative Duties

  • Participate in regular staff and pastoral team meetings
  • Source new worship materials for use in the life of the church
  • Prepare, write and/or transpose instrumental music for worship team use
  • Update and maintain the Planning Centre Online database
  • Provide strategic direction in decisions involving technology/atmosphere in sanctuary
  • Liaise with other churches and worship leaders

Preferred Skills

  • Strong Christian principles, and a strong faith in Jesus Christ, with a commitment to serve Him through music.
  • A proficiency in singing and playing at least one instrument (guitar or piano preferred)
  • A good knowledge of various styles and genres of worship music
  • Strong leadership skills, with a willingness to learn, grow, and collaborate with others
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, time-management and organizational skills
