Role and Responsibilities

Zion United Baptist Church is a community of Spirit-led believers who desire to make Jesus known. We treasure God’s good news revealed in all of Scripture and we want to share it with the world around us. We share a love for one another and our neighbors. Our new pastor will be a Christ-centered, biblically-grounded servant leader who shares our love for God and his creation. The following is a list of important attributes in our new pastor:

  • Capable Preacher: Our new pastor will enjoy studying God’s word and preparing to share an approximately 20 minute, Christ-centered, life-offering message from it. She or he will share biblical and theological ideas in ways that people of wide educational backgrounds can appreciate.
  • Spiritually Mature Leader: Our new pastor is a man or woman who has a deepening relationship with God and whose capacity for leadership is growing in Christ. Our church has believers of all stages of Christian maturity. Our new pastor will also be a careful shepherd who can help our people heal from individual and group hurts.
  • Helping Us Adapt: The world around us is changing so fast. Our new pastor will not be afraid to challenge us to engage those changes in meaningful and mission- important ways. We value our heritage and we are open to moving with the Lord as he leads us in new paths for the future.
  • Culturally Sensitive: Our new pastor will serve as the primary public figure for the only historic African Nova Scotian church in Colchester County. We treasure this aspect of our rich tradition, which our new pastor will value and embody. Experience and active participation in the life of the African United Baptist Association will be an asset.
  • Network Connector: Our new pastor will love people and connecting them with each other. Working with our Leadership Team, our new pastor will coordinate efforts to visit with active members of the church as well as connecting with congregational shut-ins. He or she will attempt to connect the people of the church in new ways that add vibrancy to our community.
  • Committed to Faith-Community Life: Our new pastor will be committed to helping grow the community life of our church. She or he will help our people discover their spiritual gifts and find ways to use them. Our new pastor will lead community connecting points such as baby dedications, baptisms, and the Lord’s Supper. He or she will oversee our efforts to make positive kingdom impacts in the lives of our children and youths.
