Description

This is a part-time position for an active individual with strengths in Bible teaching, preaching and evangelism – one who enjoys working with seniors and children.

Overview of Church and Community

Burtch Baptist was founded in 1869, in the rural community of Burtch.  The church is rural in location, but draws its members from the surrounding area, including Brantford and Mt. Pleasant and Waterford.  The membership is 55 with another 20 adherents, comprised of professionals, retired persons, blue collar workers, students and a few farmers.  The original sanctuary was constructed in 1869, an addition with classrooms was added in 1958, and a full gymnatorium and kitchen in 1975.  The Fellowship Hall/gym is wheelchair accessible, with washrooms, and we intend to make the sanctuary accessible also.

We have a predominantly mature congregation at present, but all age groups are represented.  We know there is a necessity to reach out to the surrounding neighbourhood, with a desire for growth and renewal.  We are open to new ideas, although we tend to be somewhat traditional.  Our music is a blend of traditional and contemporary.  There is a core group of strong ministry-minded individuals who work well together.

There are significant yearly activities to reach out to the community:  a well-attended Worship Service on Good Friday morning, a Women’s gathering in the Spring as well as monthly luncheons, and a Christian Concert series for several weeks in the summer.  At this time there is no Sunday School for the children, but we do offer Junior Church if there are children in attendance.  In the past, we have offered a Vacation Bible School in the summer, and we have had a basketball group .  There is a Men’s Breakfast, drawing men from the community, a few times a year.  In the past, we have joined with other community congregations for a joint service.
