“Back to School 2025” brought a lot of changes for our little family! Our youngest child started school, and amid the chaos of back to school, getting into routine, and extra-curricular activities starting up, we were so thankful for the small little habits and moments of faith that we had been implementing over the 4 years with our daughter in school.
We are huge fans of Christie Thomas and her book Little Habits, Big Faith, and have had so much fun creating small moments of faith at home and for school. The kids look forward to these moments every school year.
I created some “lunch box blessings,” which are statements followed by a scripture verse that we read each morning as we pack our lunches. The kids love sharing it with their friends (whose parents send jokes and notes) at lunchtime.

This year our son was anxious about going to school – he has never been away from mommy. When we had talked about what may help him as he is off to school, we mentioned that Jesus is with him wherever he goes. So, we decided to send him a little Jesus as he goes off to school.

I’m going to state the obvious… this world is a bit scary these days. We know that the Lord is in control, and we can absolutely trust in Him. But we want to cover our children in prayer as we send them off to school. This year we found scripture verses (Psalm 91 and Isaiah 41:10) to write in their backpacks to help this mom know that her sweet kids are covered in God’s Word as they are in school.
We are blessed to not start our school day until 9:25am, and because I work from home, I get to be with our children every morning. We love getting all our jobs done in the morning and sitting down together before school to do our family devotions and pray over our day!
It is my prayer that all families will embrace this movement of small moments of faith at home to create those habits that will last and carry on to the next generation.
