Description

Develop, coordinate, and oversee all children’s ministry programs (Nursery to Grade 5) in conjunction with the Director of Youth and Student Ministries. (See roles and responsibilities section for more info.)

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Education

  • Post-secondary Education relevant to work with children.
  • Theological training at an accredited Seminary/University/Bible College and/or accreditation a strong asset.

Experience

  • A minimum of two year’s experience in Children’s Ministry leadership (e.g. church, day program, camp settings).

Role and Responsibilities

Program

  • Develop, coordinate, and oversee all children’s ministry programs (Nursery to Grade 5) in conjunction with the Director of Youth and Student Ministries, including Promiseland (Sunday School), Acorns (weekly program), Vacation Bible School (summer camp), special events, and other programs.
  • Establish the necessary curriculum/program/study material to support all children’s programs.
  • Provide resources and encouragement to equip parents to teach and disciple their children.

Relationships

  • Provide care and mentoring for children and volunteers.
  • Promote a mentoring culture that interconnects children, youth and adult volunteers.
  • Encourage an effective transition into youth ministry and an integrated discipleship pathway extending from childhood to youth.
  • Provide robust and healthy recruitment of volunteers to support children’s ministries.

Administration

  • Manage scheduling for Children’s Ministry volunteers.
  • Manage safety program(s) for volunteers.
  • Ensure safety standards are maintained and escalate any concerns to the supervisor/Council of Elders/Board of Deacons as required.
  • Establish and oversee the budget for children’s ministry activities.

Other Responsibilities

  • Work with the pastoral team in other aspects of shared ministry (i.e., shared curricular topics, music/drama), according to giftedness.
  • Report to and liaise with the Director of Youth and Student Ministries.
  • Meet with the MCBC staff on a regular basis for prayer, encouragement, and coordination of ministry activities.

Preferred Skills

  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and His Church.
  • A strong affirmation of the church’s mission statement.
  • Demonstrated history of involvement in previous ministry settings.
  • Able to articulate a clear philosophy of the goal and approach to children’s ministry in a multicultural church context.
  • Proven ability to build, lead and collaborate with teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with children and youth.
  • Strong experience in building relationships with people of different ages, cultures and backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to resolve conflict and solve problems in healthy ways.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity and organizational skills (time and project management).
  • Excellent written and digital communications skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word/Excel, Google Docs/Sheets and online children’s ministry management programs.
