Bethany Baptist Church has a rich history that dates to 1952, when a group of devoted believers came together to establish their own Baptist community in the area. Before constructing the present church building in 1992 at 382 Centrepointe, the Bethany congregation worshiped in two other buildings on Baseline Road. Bethany Baptist Church belongs to the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec (CBOQ), the Ottawa Baptist Association (OBA), and recently celebrated our 72nd anniversary.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Qualifications:
- A personal faith and commitment to Jesus Christ.
- A sense of calling to ministry and a passion for sharing the Gospel.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to inspire and motivate others.
- Great communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds.
- Biblical knowledge and understanding of Christian doctrine.
- Experience in preaching, teaching, and leading worship.
- Ability to provide spiritual guidance and counseling to individuals and families.
- Ability to work collaboratively with church leaders and volunteers.
- Accredited or will pursue accreditation with Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec (CBOQ).
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development.
- Time management and organization skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Theology, Divinity, or a related field. However, Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree or equivalent would be preferred.
- Additional graduate-level education or certification in areas such as counseling, leadership, or administration may be advantageous.
Role and Responsibilities
Role:
- The Pastor will serve as the spiritual leader and teacher of the church, providing vision, direction, and guidance to the congregation. The Pastor will be responsible for preaching, teaching, and administering ordinances, as well as overseeing the overall ministry and operations of the church.
Responsibilities:
- Preaching and Teaching:
- Deliver sermons and messages that are rooted in Scripture and relevant to the lives of the congregation in a clear and engaging way.
- Develop and implement a preaching plan that aligns with the church's vision and values.
- Provide teaching and guidance through Bible studies, small groups, and other educational programs.
- Worship and Ordinances:
- Lead worship services, including preparing and delivering prayers, readings, and benedictions.
- Administer ordinances such as baptism and communion, and perform weddings and funerals as needed.
- Work collaboratively with the Worship Team to prepare the weekly worship services.
- Pastoral Care:
- Provide spiritual guidance and counseling to members of the congregation, including visiting the sick, comforting the grieving, and offering support during times of crisis.
- Develop and facilitate a pastoral care program that ensures the needs of the congregation are being met for our homebound members and adherents.
- Leadership and Administration:
- Provide leadership and direction to the church's staff, officers, and volunteers.
- Outreach and Evangelism:
- Facilitate outreach and evangelism, including community events, missions trips, and other initiatives that promote the gospel and build the kingdom of God.
- Communication:
- Represent the church in the community, building relationships with other religious organizations, civic groups, and local businesses.
- Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement long-range plans for the church's growth and development.
- Identify opportunities for expansion and improvement, and work with the church council and other leaders to implement changes.
- Team Building:
- Foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration among the church staff, officers, and volunteers.
- Encourage and support the development of new leaders and volunteers, and provide opportunities for them to serve and grow.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of church history and tradition, particularly in the Baptist denomination.
- Understanding of contemporary issues and challenges facing the church, including cultural trends and social justice concerns.
- Ability to provide pastoral care and counseling to individuals and families.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across diverse groups and demographics.
- Familiarity with technology and digital tools, including audio/visual equipment, social media platforms, and church management software.
- Experience in community outreach and evangelism, with a passion for reaching the unchurched and marginalized.
- Collaborative mindset, with a willingness to work closely with other church leaders, committees, and volunteers to achieve shared goals.
- Flexibility and adaptability, with a willingness to adjust to changing circumstances and needs within the church and community.
