The Intern Pastor is a leader who provides support and assistance in the areas of pastoral care, community care, connections, discipleship, and teaching. The Intern Pastor will support training and discipleship for new and growing believers. In addition, support the growth of mid-week and quarterly programs for all ages. Overall guidance will be provided by the Senior Pastor and the Board of Deacons.
Overview of Church and Community
Located in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, “The United Baptist Church (1965)” - hereafter referred to as “UBC” - is a CBOQ affiliate church with a rich history of two independent Baptist congregations uniting as one to form UBC in 1965.
As part of a CBOQ Church Revitalization Project, UBC has experienced massive growth since spring 2022, as weekly service attendance has increased from approximately 30 attendees to now 200+. UBC is an international community of Christ followers from more than 20 countries from 4 continents, with the majority of congregants being new to Canada within the last six years.
Our worship services, music, fellowship, and outreach events both reflect and celebrate this ethnic, cultural, and linguistic diversity. UBC has gained a reputation in Sault Ste. Marie as a welcoming international church community.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Current seminary, university or college student or recent graduate
- Computer skills at a level to successfully complete written reports and use social media (e.g., church Facebook page, WhatsApp, YouTube and e-mail).
- A heart for the lost and a passion for local church ministry
- A commitment to the gospel and the authority of the word of God
- Active learner and self-starter
- Have excellent verbal and written skills with English being a required language.
- Able to communicate well in a professional manner and manage confidential information.
- Willingness to seek guidance and take direction.
- Agreement to adhere to the values of the United Baptist Church.
Role and Responsibilities
- Serve, nurture and welcome a diverse and growing congregation particularly newcomers adapting to life in Canada
- Assist with pastoral care, counseling, visitation and provide support in areas assigned by Sr Pastor
- Participate in Sunday morning operations; Assist with scheduling Sunday services; attend meetings and an active participant in Prayer ministry
- Actively supports newcomers, new believer outreach.
- Develop ongoing partnerships with community organizations.
- Assess community needs that our congregation can help meet.
- Service planning and scheduling in close collaboration with Sr Pastor
- Support worship, audio-visual, creative design, marketing, prayers, children and youth ministry
- Support the Sr Pastor in administrative responsibilities
