At Assembly 2025, we had the privilege of sitting down with a group of young adult delegates to hear directly from them—not just about their experience, but about what they want our churches to know. As these young adults sat on stage, we were invited to hear their plea for inclusion through an interview led by Alvin Lau, our Youth Ministries Associate.
Their message was simple and clear: We’re here. We want to help. Please make room for us.
Throughout the interview-style conversation, they spoke about barriers young people face in our churches—lack of opportunity, feeling dismissed, or being unsure of where they fit in. One delegate shared how they were eager to serve but didn’t feel equipped or welcomed. Another spoke about how discouraging it is when ideas are praised but never followed up on.
It’s important to note that throughout the interview, you will hear hope in their voices. They spoke about churches where they are being mentored, encouraged, and included—and how transformative that’s been. You will hear both the hope and their desire to participate—but in a way that is meaningful. They offered their thoughts on how our CBOQ churches can create space for young adults to grow, lead, and belong.
“If your church is struggling with numbers, we will show up,” one said. “Give us food and a safe place, and we’ll bring our friends.”
This wasn’t just a message for Assembly—it was a message to all of us across CBOQ. Our young adults are ready. They want to serve, learn, and be part of building the church—today. You can watch or listen to their full conversation at vimeo.com/1096605730.
My prayer is that these voices challenge and encourage us to respond with open hands and open hearts.
