Serving, Gathering, and Growing in Faith

By Anne and Phil Butler, The Living Room

Cultivating the Christian communities that God calls us to grow often begins with church planting. Through their incredible relational ministry to people who will not walk through the door of a traditional church, The Living Room has touched the hearts of many in the city of St. Thomas, Ontario, exemplifying the virtues of kindness and charity. Their CBOQ grant has been used to purchase the food necessary to welcome and host many who want to serve their community, build community and grow in faith. The CBOQ grant has also enabled them to purchase the spiritual media that is needed for impactful discipleship.

Anne and Phil Butler, who lead The Living Room, invite believers and unbelievers to community gatherings that they host, and to monthly, local service opportunities with a food rescue ministry called Harvest Hands. Gradually they are able to invite people involved to their weekly gathering at their home every Thursday evening to explore what it means to follow Jesus.

Leading by example is a tremendous way of inspiring others to witness ‘the Christ of the gospels’ and see His transformative power. The Living Room has been blessed with many who have become involved, one of whom asked to be baptized after attending Thursday evening gatherings. This highlights why the desire is to share the good news in all they do. Some of those who have connected with The Living Room by volunteering are now inviting their friends and family to Thursday evening gatherings. Participants as a result have experienced profound moments of community togetherness through the power of prayer. All this is cultivating Christian Community.
