Celebrating Women’s Strength and Resilience

By Rebecca Neal, Donway Baptist Church

International Women’s Day is a reminder of the strength, resilience, and progress of women around the world, and it’s a time to celebrate the achievements of women in all walks of life. To me, it’s a call to recognize the ongoing challenges women face, whether in terms of gender inequality, societal expectations, or personal struggles. It’s also a day to reflect on the powerful contributions of women who have paved the way for future generations.

I look up to many women who have shaped my personal journey. Women like Maggie Smith for her strong character, my grandma Dorothy Neal for her creativity and organization, and my own mother for her unwavering love and support. Their stories of perseverance, intelligence, and strength inspire me every day.

As a woman, I’ve faced challenges both inside and outside the church context. In church settings, I’ve seen how traditional expectations can sometimes restrict women’s opportunities to lead or have their voices heard. Outside, I’ve encountered gender bias in the workplace and society, where women’s voices are often dismissed or undervalued. However, these experiences have only strengthened my resolve to advocate for myself and other women

The joys of being a woman come in the connections I’ve made, the growth I’ve experienced, and the way I’ve been able to inspire others. There’s a unique sense of community and empowerment when women support one another.

My hope for the future is a world where women are free to pursue their dreams without fear of judgment or barriers. I would tell my younger self to never be afraid of speaking up, trusting my worth, and staying true to my vision.
