Prayer has been a part of my life. Not always as good as it should be, but it is there. When we came to pastor New Dundee Baptist Church, they were in the habit of having a prayer time at the end of some Sunday services. This became a major part of our service, so that we now do it almost every week in the middle of the service. People share praise items and prayer requests, and then I pray about them. But I felt that there needed to be more. Due to COVID, our prayer times before the services and our Sunday evening Bible study groups had ended.
As I was thinking and praying about what we could do, at a deacons’ meeting we decided we would try making Wednesday our church prayer day. I would send out an email Tuesday night with a couple of thoughts from Sunday’s sermon or from something else, and then include praise items and prayer requests. This way even the shut ins could take part. People were free to pray at any time throughout Wednesday.
We started sometime in the fall of 2024. As a result, people who would never attend a prayer meeting are praying. We all feel like we are part of the church, and it connects us together. When summer came and we went on holidays, people wanted it to continue, so one of the deacons stepped in and did it. When fall came, people wanted it to continue. By June 2025, we had seen well over 30 prayer requests answered in that time.
We have added a prayer meeting where those who can attend do so. We do it about every month or two. We are now going to do a prayer car/walk this spring for the third year in a row.
As a result, prayer has become a major part of our church life.

Hi Gloria,
These were some very refreshing ideas and ways of praying together. Thanks for sharing!
