First Baptist Church is seeking a full-time pastor who is passionate about serving the Lord in a small Eastern Ontario community. The successful candidate must be well-versed and grounded in the scriptures and have excellent communication skills which enable the successful candidate to make those scriptures relevant to the lives of those whom the Pastor serves. The successful candidate must show evidence of being led by the Holy Spirit as well as evidence of a Christlike spirit in daily interactions with others. We are seeking a visionary leader committed to church growth who displays the Fruits of the Spirit and is able to work with a wide variety of people to achieve common goals.
Overview of Church and Community
First Baptist Church Smiths Falls was founded in 1833. Our present Church building was built in 1873 and the education wing was added in 1960. We have approximately 77 members, which is significantly fewer than in previous years. We also have a number of adherents. FBCSF is considered to be an “Evangelical Baptist” church. Many of our congregation come from the surrounding townships. The town is located only 40 minutes southwest of the Ottawa/Kanata area.

Accredited or willing and eligible to be accredited with CBOQ.
Role and Responsibilities
To preach and teach the Word of God.
To effectively collaborate with the Board of Deacons and the Elders to provide congregational leadership by developing a strong ministry vision.
To establish relationships and make connections in our local community in order to encourage those without a church home to consider First Baptist as a viable option.
To encourage the use of spiritual gifts in Christ’s service.
To work with the Worship Team leaders in preparing appropriate worship services.
To give leadership in activities which seek to meet fellowship and spiritual needs in the church.
To be an active, willing ex-officio member of our church Boards, teams and committees.
To teach and encourage establishment of strong Christian homes.
To lead with conviction, determination, purpose and a plan, and be unafraid to make tough decisions.
To give pastoral care to our congregation including visitation, counselling and comforting.
Leadership: Effective communicator and listener, willing to engage others and be collaborative when making decisions as well as being well-organized and capable of showing initiative. Has demonstrated, through past practice, the ability to reach beyond the walls of the church with innovative ideas that lead to church growth.
Personal: Strong interpersonal skills, easily relates to the congregation and community members across the age spectrum, compassionate and approachable, sociable and enjoys fun and laughter. Demonstrates, through life experience, spiritual maturity and Christian discipleship and has a genuine love for people.
Pastoral: A passion for the Word of God, prayerful, desirous of working with people to help them develop a closer relationship with God, a shepherd’s heart with a passion for souls, caring, warm and humble, demonstrating love toward others characterized by patience, and kindness with sensitivity to hurts and struggles.
