This position is made possible through a grant from Canada Summer Jobs. The applicant must be between the ages of 15-30 years. This position is best suited for someone who has completed high school and is pursuing post-secondary education/opportunities. The successful candidate will need the following: ability to work on site and from home; reliable home internet connection; laptop computer.
Overview of Church and Community
Highland Baptist Church is located in a changing and diverse community in Kitchener. We are surrounded by students, young families, senior citizens, newcomers to Canada and pretty much everyone else. We are within easy reach of Kitchener’s downtown. Our church is growing more diverse as time goes by. We seek to love and serve one another and our surrounding community through our children and youth programs, community dinners, CNDC (Children’s Needs Distribution Center), and other ministry opportunities. Our building is used throughout the week for ESL classes. And we share our building with both a Sudanese congregation and a Karen congregation.

Role and Responsibilities
FunDay Summer Day Camps
Coordinate two low-cost children’s summer programs, for children in our community by:
- Planning, developing, leading and implementing the camps
- Recruiting volunteers and advertising for the event
Camps will take place July 21-25 and August 18-22
Community Events for Families & Children
Coordinate creative, low-cost, weekly, evening event for families and/or children in our community by:
- Planning, implementing, and attending the events
- Recruiting volunteers and advertising for the events
Weekly Children’s Program
Provide leadership for Sunday morning children’s program by:
- Providing programming and administrative support for the program
- Teaching children in the program
Summer Youth Programs
Along with the youth leadership team, provide summer youth activities by:
- Taking part and providing leadership as needed in youth activities approximately once/week
- Providing leadership and assistance to youth service project (takes place August 18-22)
- Fostering relationships and community connections with youth
Administration
Assist with administrative duties such as phone calls, responding to e-mails, promoting events, etc. in order to ensure that the above responsibilities are effectively carried out.
The position is for 12 weeks, Monday June 9 – Friday August 29.
Preferred Skills
Good written communication skills; strong public speaking skills; the ability to work independently; the ability to lead a team of volunteers.
