The Associate Pastor ministers and encourages the spiritual growth of youth (grade 6 to young adults) within our church and community. In Addition the Associate Pastor develops the ministries of music, drama and the visual arts and incorporates these into worship so that the worship of the congregation is enhanced to the glory of God. This is a part-time position based on an average of 30 hours per week.


This position is accountable to Executive Council and responsible to the Lead Pastor. The Associate Pastor will work closely with the pastoral staff, the ministry assistant, musicians, parents and youth volunteers.

At Lorne Park Baptist Church, we seek to become a thriving family of passionate followers of Jesus, equipped to accomplish the Kingdom mission. Our worship service is diverse and creative, has an average attendance of 150 parishioners, is a blend of contemporary and traditional elements and is held at 10:00 AM Sunday mornings. Lorne Park is a mission oriented church supporting the Compass Food Bank, the Riverside Breakfast Program, Day Camp Programs at Oneida and Poplar River First Nations, a partnership with famers in Brookfield Alberta and Canada Food Grains Bank and, most recently, the sponsorship of a refugee family from Syria. Also, for more than 30 years, Lorne Park has offered the SPARC Day Camp to families in Mississauga.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • A mature faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to serve him through the local church
  • Undergraduate degree and proven experience leading church programs for teens and young adults
  • Theological training preferably at the Master’s level (M.Div. or equivalent) from an accredited seminary
  • Music training at the post-secondary level preferred. Vocal and instrumental abilities including ability to perform in public.
  • Recognized ordination or, ability to pursue accreditation within CBOQ).
  • Commitment to the purpose and mission of the Christian church and, to the core values and vision of Lorne Park Baptist Church

Role and Responsibilities

Youth and Young Adult Ministries

  1. Lead, develop and participate in the Sunday youth program, midweek activities and outreach activities/special events that engage youth. Evaluate programs/initiatives based on measurable outcomes.
  2. Represent the needs of the youth and young adults in worship preparation with the pastoral team and engage them in developing and using their gifts within the church and community.
  3. Stay connected with teens, university students and young adults
  4. Assist in the development, training and mentoring of youth leaders
  5. Encourage youth participation in SPARC Day Camp.

Worship Leadership and Coordination

  1. Provide leadership to worship teams, arts groups, sound and video volunteers. Recruit, support and mentor group leadership.
  2. In consultation with the Lead Pastor and Organist/Choir Director, plan and coordinate worship services on a weekly basis.
  3. Assist in the planning and leadership of special services as required (e.g. – Christmas Eve and Good Friday).
  4. Research and select music for the worship team that is suited to their talents and abilities.
  5. Manage equipment, instruments and music including copyrights and library.
  6. Prepare an Annual Music Budget in consultation with the Organist/Choir Director and other volunteer ensemble leaders.

General Pastoral duties

  1. Provide pastoral care to meet the needs of youth and their families.
  2. Assist with preaching duties as coordinated by Lead Pastor.
  3. Ensure a safe environment for youth including adherence to church safety guidelines
  4. Annually develop a ministry plan in consultation with the Lead Pastor. Prepare budget to meet the needs of the ministry plan for presentation to Executive Council.

Preferred Skills

  • Understanding of early teen and young adult development and the challenges facing youth today.
  • Proven experience in the areas of worship leadership and preaching
  • Knowledge of music from a variety of genres and generations
  • Good communication and administrative abilities
  • Ability to mentor and assist in the development of volunteers
  • Relational skills with people of all ages
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the ministry team
  • Ability to lead and inspire others
  • Possesses vision, energy, commitment, resourcefulness and creativity.
