Description
Associate Minister: Mission and Community Outreach will oversee the outreach and engagement efforts of the church in the local community, with a focus on serving homeless youth through the Haven Too Shelter of Fourth Avenue Baptist Church. This individual will be responsible for coordinating and managing the church's shelter program, as well as developing and implementing community outreach programs and events, developing a sustainable funding model, recruiting and training volunteers, and helping the city of Ottawa become more aware of Fourth Avenue Baptist Church and the Haven Too Shelter.
This is a one year renewable contract position.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in ministry, social work, or a related field.
- Ideally, experience working with the homeless population and coordinating shelter programs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lead and manage volunteers effectively.
- Strong faith and commitment to following the Way of the Cross.
- Experience with budget management and grant writing preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to climb stairs and work in confined spaces.

Role and Responsibilities
Shelter Program Coordination:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the shelter program, including intake, scheduling, and coordination of volunteers.
- Ensure that the shelter is properly staffed and always maintained.
- Maintain accurate records and statistics regarding shelter usage and volunteer hours.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of shelter residents.
- Network with local community agencies to provide the best care possible for our guests.
- Supervise, coach, and train shelter staff and volunteers.
- Increase awareness about Haven Too Emergency Shelter for Youth in our community.
Community Outreach:
- Develop and implement outreach programs and events to engage with the local community.
- Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations and service providers to better serve the needs of the homeless population.
- Collaborate with church leaders and volunteers to organize and participate in community events, such as food drives, shelter fundraisers, or holiday outreach programs.
Pastoral leadership:
- Provide pastoral care and support to shelter guests, staff, and volunteers, as needed.
- Develop and lead spiritual growth opportunities for shelter guests and community members.
Volunteer Management:
- Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers to support the shelter program and community outreach efforts.
- Ensure that volunteers are properly trained and equipped to serve the needs of shelter residents and the community.
- Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours and activities.
Budget Management:
- Develop and manage the budget for the shelter program and community outreach efforts.
- Monitor expenses and ensure that spending remains within budgetary constraints.
- Research and apply for appropriate grants and other funding sources.
- Plan and execute fundraising initiatives for Haven Too Emergency Shelter for Youth.
Other
- Work under the guidance and supervision of the Minister of Congregation and the Deacon’s Commission to implement Fourth Avenue Baptist Church’s vision.
- Occasional preaching.
- Other opportunities coincide with the candidates gifting and calling.
