DESCRIPTION:Forge Canada invites you to join the journey of becoming Backyard Pilgrims this February as we enter into the Lenten season. Starting the week of February 19 (Tuesday or Thursday)\, we will be running two book study groups that will be walking through the book\, Backyard Pilgrim\, by Matt Canlis. The groups will be led by Deb Judas and Bob Baumann\, who are both pastors and members of the Forge Canada team. Groups will meet once a week\, over the course of 6 weeks to discuss what they are learning and how they are seeing God at work in their lives and in their neighbourhood. \nBeing part of one of these groups will give you an opportunity to go on this pilgrimage for yourself\, while also seeing if this is something that you might want to take your church through at a later date. Each day there is a reflection (the Bible path) and a time to get out into your community (to walk the parish path). SUMMARY:Walking Together in a Good Way
DESCRIPTION:As we continue to plan our Indigenous Learning Event\, Walking Together in a Good Way\, to be held September 23-25\, 2022\, at Westview Baptist Church in London\, reports continue to come in about the now over 6\,500 unmarked graves of children who died in Residential School. September 30 has been designated as a Federal Holiday (National Day for Truth and Reconciliation) yet some provinces have refused to recognize it. The bulk of the 94 Calls to Action listed in the Truth and Reconciliation Report have seen no significant action. \nFor reconciliation to take place\, action not words\, is required. Until we know\, understand and accept the truth about what happened historically and why\, reconciliation cannot begin. Everyone has a responsibility to learn what the government and the church did to Indigenous people\, the ongoing effects of that history on them\, their communities and their culture today\, and where that treatment continues (e.g. undrinkable water\, lack of housing\, continued theft of children\, purposely inadequate healthcare and education\, etc.). Every individual can do something (e.g. write to their government representatives and insist the government keep its promises toward Indigenous people\, not be complicit in supporting lies and stereotypes\, walk with Indigenous people and groups who are trying to have the truth heard\, refuse to participate in or agree with systemic racism wherever it occurs). \nThis event brings together Indigenous knowledge keepers\, elders\, cultural leaders\, historians\, healers\, and others who are generously and graciously willing to give of their time to help us learn what we need to know. These are people from our local southwestern Ontario Indigenous communities who are very well qualified to speak to us and help us appreciate both the historical and present-day effects of the way Indigenous people have been treated. There will be at least 15 Indigenous presenters for this event so attenders will have the opportunity to learn a great deal\, get to know our neighbours\, and be able to participate in real reconciliation going forward. \nThis is a unique opportunity\, and we really encourage you to take advantage of it and plan to attend. DESCRIPTION:May 4 | 11 | 18 | 25 at 1pm \nNext Fall\, we will be hosting Reignite pastor’s conference virtually. Andrew Root\, the author of several books on pastors\, discipleship\, youth ministry\, church\, and culture will be our guest speaker.  In preparation\, we would like to invite you to join a four-week book club to unpack and reflect on the themes and implications of Root’s ground-breaking book ‘The Pastor in a Secular Age.‘ \nIn The Pastor in a Secular Age\, Root explores how the secular age has impacted the identity and practice of the pastor\, obscuring his or her core vocation: to call and assist others into the experience of ministry. Using examples of pastors throughout history–from Augustine and Jonathan Edwards to Martin Luther King Jr. and Nadia Bolz-Weber–Root shows how pastors have both perpetuated and responded to the secular age.
