Discipleship Online: Discernment In Small Groups
October 1 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Discernment is typically understood through the basic question: What is God’s will for my life? What does God want for me? (marriage, job, home, etc.). This is an important and frequently asked question. However, discernment is more than this.
Discernment is about becoming aware of the presence and work of God in our midst and in our world. When it comes to groups, discernment is rarely practiced and often far too individualistic. Group members discern what God wants for their lives but rarely invite others to participate in life altering decisions. Groups leaders can dictate the future of their small groups without engaging others to discern the direction of their group.
We are inviting churches, small group leaders, and small group members to make discernment a central practice of discipleship and ministry. This act of mutual discernment makes every person responsible to listen, hear, and obey the will of God both individually and communally. This act invites us to participate in what God is doing and integrate small groups with the life of the local church.
We have invited special guests, Mee Yun Kim, a Emmaus Formation Centre spiritual director who regularly teaches on discernment and oversees small groups in her local church.
