Consistency & Love

By Ashley Hu

For the last 18 years, I have had the privilege of working with the community of Ohsweken, located within the Six Nations of the Grand River. My church, Mississauga City Baptist Church, worked alongside several other churches to create a week-long VBS program with singing, games, crafts, and Bible lessons during the day, and volunteered in the community during the afternoons and evenings – which of course involved a few BBQs. After 10 years, many of the little kids who started attending when we began were not so little anymore! So, like them, we grew to include a teens program, while also committing to more visits throughout the year.

The teens program has been pivotal in our ministry as it aims to create a space where relationships can continue to grow through listening and sharing. It has also been a great blessing to see some of the teens volunteer with us to run the VBS program.

I feel incredibly blessed and grateful for the relationships that have been built with the kids and families who welcome us and appreciate our long-standing commitment to partner with them. I know that because of them I’ve learned the importance of serving with consistency and love.
