We are living in a fascinating season for churches. For most of us, Post-Christendom Canada, feels like uncharted terrain. The reports are everywhere – declining church attendance, the absence of younger people, financial turbulence and the challenge of disunity. In many ways, the future seems bleak…
…and I believe there has never been a more exciting time to be a part of this family of Baptist churches.
I am fully convinced that the local church is where it’s at! Lives are changed as people encounter the Triune God through local churches. This conviction has guided me and inspires my life’s work. I struggle to adequately express my excitement at joining the CBOQ as Director of Congregational Development. This role is designed to help support our churches through developing resources and regional equipping.
There is no question that churches these days are having to navigate complex societal changes. Though our faith is in the God that is the same yesterday, today and forever, our pastors and church leaders are often reporting that things feel out of control and their churches are struggling.
I am motivated and humbled by the opportunity to hear your stories of transformation, the questions your church is wrestling through and your heart’s desire. You are placed where you are for a reason which means you are God’s person for your church and your neighbourhood. You are the expert.
Given the unique realities of each of our churches and neighbourhoods, one-size-fits-all resources won’t be adequate. No technique will save you from the messiness of ministry. The great news is that you are not alone in ministry but are a part of a family on the long journey of living faithfully present in your own context.
Please pray for me (and be patient with me) as I seek to support our churches. I hope together we can create a library of resources that will serve our churches in living out their mission and I look forward to us gathering regionally. Our greatest resource is people that have encountered Christ.
Let’s do this!
