The Pastor of Family Life is a full time position. The Pastor will maintain, develop and implement ministry with families while working with adolescents and children. This position to be overseen by the Christian Education Committee (CE), and supervised by the Lead Pastor.

Overview of Church and Community

First Baptist Church Smiths Falls, (FBCSF), was founded in 1833. Our present church building was built in 1873 and the education wing in 1960. The sanctuary was renovated in 2001. We have approximately 150 members and 80 adherents. FBCSF has an active children=s and youth ministry. FBCSF is considered an AEvangelical Baptist@ Church. On October 1, 2013, FBCSF called our newest full-time pastor who will be your direct supervisor.

Smiths Falls is known as the heart of the Rideau Canal and has a population of 9,000. Many members of our congregation come from the surrounding townships. Smiths Falls is located only 40 minutes southwest of the Ottawa/Kanata area.

Role and Responsibilities

• To possess a mature and vibrant faith in Jesus Christ. To be a Godly person who has ordered his/her life in compliance with the teaching of Scripture and the example of The Lord, Jesus Christ.
• To be an example to all in personal godliness (I Timothy 4:12) and to exemplify God's requirements for a pastor which includes a Christian lifestyle/home (I Timothy 3:1-7).
• To lead, promote and oversee the spiritual lives of families, youth and children, by teaching the principles of worship, obeying the Word of God, winning others to Christ, serving the Church body, and participating in the community.
• To be responsible to teach and assist parents in the development of Biblical parenting skills.
• To be in agreement with the doctrinal position of FBC

• To develop services and outreach opportunities that will enrich families and encourage FBC relationships, including visitation and mentoring
• maintain, develop and implement family ministries in the church and the Smiths Falls Community which will involve worship, fellowship, discipleship, and ministry for families and children/youth (Special Events, Sunday School, Classes during Church, Mid-Week Activities, Summer programs including Vacation Bible School, etc., including the selection/circulation of curriculum)
• To protect children, youth and families in need
• To disciple young people and their parents to know and to grow in Christ Jesus, teaching them the Christian life, and giving them quality, contemporary, and relevant teachings
• To encourage children and youth to be active in participation in Worship Services in the classroom and in church services
• To lead the children's story on Sunday mornings.
• To teach, implement and maintain the Plan For Protection

• To carry out other duties as assigned by the Christian Education (CE) Committee, as supervised by the Lead Pastor
• To participate in staff meetings
• To communicate closely with the church administrator in sharing information for the calendar, program planning, promotion and use of facilities
• To coordinate communication for children, youth and family ministry with the leaders, congregation and community
• To recruit, train and support leaders and teachers, holding periodic meetings
• To teach as needed. Must teach each group once each term.
• To maintain flexible working hours as determined by the needs of the ministry.
• To participate in possible Short Term Missions
• To prepare an annual plan, and long range 3 and 5 year plans.
• To assist in preparing/monitoring the annual budget for the CE Committee

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Possess a Bible College or Seminary Degree with training in Children/Youth/Family related ministries.
• A minimum of two years related experience
• Strong Computer Skills/technology awareness
• A valid Ontario Driver=s License
• Successful police criminal record check and agreement with FBC Lifestyle and Morality Statement
• Compliancy with our current Plan for Protection policy

• Strong organization and teaching/mentoring skills
• Strong communication skills (written and oral)
• Excellent relational skills particularly with families of children and youth
• Strong collaboration skills, working effectively as a team leader and team member

• Energetic, resourceful, innovative
• Passion, excitement and a love for reaching children and youth


• There will be a three (3) month probationary period with regular reviews of performance goals (By CE Committee).
