We are seeking a Children’s Pastor who will partner with parents, pastoral and lay leadership teams to see that children come to know Jesus Christ as Saviour, to grow as members of God’s family, and to go in service to our Lord. The Children’s pastor will develop, implement and direct a multi-faceted program caring for more than 300 children (infancy through 6th grade). The Children’s Pastor will report directly to the Senior Pastor. This is a one-year full time contract position. The languages used are English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Overview of Church and Community

Scarborough Chinese Baptist Church (SCBC) is an evangelical church with three congregations: Cantonese, English, and Mandarin, with a combined weekly attendance of approximately 1,900. We are strategically located in the Greater Toronto Area which is one of the most dynamic and multicultural area in North America.

Role and Responsibilities

The Children’s Pastor is responsible for the following:
1. Carry out the long-term vision established and develop short to medium-term plans and goals for the Children’s Ministry.
2. Oversee and lead Children’s Ministry activities and programs and create new, fresh and dynamic opportunities that will help kids grow in the faith.
3. Develop and maintain program curriculum by updating and reviewing materials and selecting new materials for Children’s programs.
4. In collaboration with the Outreach Pastor, provide opportunities for children to reach out to un-churched friends in the community.
5. Work with volunteer leaders within the Children’s Ministry and committee members to plan and organize programs including Sunday School, Awana Club, Summer day camp.
6. In collaboration with the Family Ministry Pastor, provide opportunities, training and tools for parents to instruct their children in spiritual matters.
7. Oversee the administration of the child protection policy, including training and screening of all staff and volunteers who work with children. This also includes conducting background checks on prospective Children’s Ministry volunteers.
8. Continue to maintain and further develop a strong Children’s Ministry team through recruiting, training, inspiring, motivating, and supporting volunteers and leaders.
9. Supervise staff and volunteers including mentoring and conducting performance evaluations.
10. Collaborate and work with other pastors on plans and projects including but not limited to Children’s program(s) for church-wide functions (e.g. – Easter, Christmas, church anniversary).
11. Prepare an annual budget and oversee all spending within the budget.
12. Perform any other job responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• A mature Christian with a clear vision for Children’s Ministry, sustained passion for serving children, parents with young children, and strong commitment to God’s mission for the local church.
• Education with a Master of Divinity or Bachelor of Children Ministry or equivalent training and/or experience.
• Knowledge and experience leading and developing children’s program in a medium to large Christian church environment or its equivalent.
• Gifted at shepherding, discipleship, teaching, and leadership development.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
• Well-developed interpersonal skills to interact with children, parents, children’s ministry workers and volunteers.
• Able to work well with the pastoral team and the children’s ministry team towards common objectives.
• Places value on recruiting and training others to work in a team context to develop and maintain effective ministries.
• Strong planning and organizational skills to carry out the development of the various children’s programs and events.
• Strong leadership skills for leading the Children’s Ministry teams and programs to successfully achieve their objectives.
