Congregational Development: Our Growing Team

Preach picI remember the days when we used to send handwritten letters—before the Internet, texting and email. We used to write a letter one week, put a postage stamp on the envelope and post it. It would arrive at its destination a couple of days later and the recipient would read it and write a reply which we would receive towards the end of the following week!

The two key things about a letter are who is sending it and whom the letter is for. It is important not to get these things confused. When Paul writes to the church at Corinth he is clear that the people in the church are a ‘letter’ sent by Christ to everybody; ‘You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, written not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.’ (2 Cor 3: 2-3).

I am thrilled to be invited to join Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec, knowing that we together are not the senders, nor the recipients but the canvas on which God communicates to everybody. As my family and I come from the UK we join a family of churches that are grappling with the joys and challenges of being the carriers of God’s message (letter).  This Gospel message I know is dear to your hearts. Therefore I look forward to sharing fellowship with you as we all continue to learn how to communicate that which we hold dear and are held by.

  1. Wonderful Cid and Al! We are so glad and excited for you – and for Canada!! Loads of blessings, Matt and Van (Sweden).

  2. Welcome to our wonderful country and to the CBOQ. Looking forward to meeting you in the near future. I loved my time as Executive Director for Baptist Women from 2006-2014 and miss the opportunities to be with the other staff there. May God bless you and your family as you settle in and get to know our big family!
