Your Faithfulness Continues

Your word, Lord, is eternal;
it stands firm in the heavens.
Your faithfulness continues through all generations;
you established the earth, and it endures.

Psalm 119:89-90

First Baptist Church, Wallaceburg is older than Canada… but not by much. Founded just one year before confederation, in 1866, they began their celebrations last year and didn’t stop until the year was done.

But how did they celebrate their longevity? Not just with a series of concerts or potlucks, but rather by extending compassion to those around them through the “150th Projects – Blessing Our Community and Beyond”.

Denise Shephard, of FBC Wallaceburg shares her church’s story of the amazing things they have accomplished:

The principle project, led under the direction of Kae Bushey, was to support CBOQ’s partner organization, Canadian Baptist Ministries, in ongoing project in Bolivia against Chagas disease, an insect-borne, lethal disease that affects those who live under thatched rooves. FBC Wallaceburg’s church family donated throughout the year, managing to raise a total of $8,059, allowing 23 Bolivian families to make their homes safe, and eliminate the risk of deadly disease. They were even able to connect over Skype with the project staff to share the good news.

Other projects adopted by various committees within the church contributed to our local Wallaceburg community, Walpole Island, Chatham and London. The Salvation Army Food Bank received 386 juice boxes; the Lend-A-Hand Breakfast Program had 170 breakfasts covered; gift cards purchased supported the Wallaceburg Christian School; Mom’s Baby Cupboard received 150 diapers. Charlemont Free Methodist Church received $150 to partner with them in their outreach in Chatham to girls caught in human trafficking, and $150 went to the Walpole Island Evangelistic Centre to partner with them in assisting First Nations pastors from rural, northern Ontario communities with resources like books, training, etc. and travel expenses to come to Walpole Island this summer for a special training conference. Many clothing were donated to the homeless ministry in London.

The closing ceremonies included a historical walk through the past 150 years with the viewing of a video created by Dave Babbitt capturing archived photographs set to background music of Wallaceburg Baptist choirs and soloists of many years gone by. The auditorium was lined with storyboards documenting the various groups, music, pastors throughout the years.

First Baptist Church in Wallaceburg is dedicated to reaching others with the love of Christ, both in our own community and beyond.

CBOQ is blessed to have congregations that live out the call and example of Jesus in their communities through compassion, mercy and dedication. Here’s to another 150 years!

  1. So good to see this. My dad pastored there and formed part of this lifestyle. As a young teen, the BYPU was an immense shaping tool in my life.
    God is good keep on keeping oh. remember Luke 6.36-38

    1. Which for the record is…

      Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

      “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

      Luke 6:36-38
